Nakheel start training course for safety advisors on Dubai World projects

Registration made mandatory under new health and safety regulations, Construction safety advisors will have to undergo two days of mandatory training, and pass a written examination to obtain registration before they are allowed to work on Dubai World projects.

The registration course, conducted by Nakheel under the terms of an MoU it signed with EHS, the Environment, Health & Safety arm of Dubai World, on Thursday (May 10), will be offered free of charge to all safety advisors working on Dubai World developments.

The registration scheme has been introduced as a requirement of the new EHS Regulations and Standards that went into effect in February.

The MoU was today signed by Ahmed Abdul Hussain, CEO, EHS, and Abdulrahman Kalantar, Director, Design Group, Nakheel, the property development arm of Dubai World.

Under the MoU, EHS has appointed Nakheel Corporate Health and Safety Department to develop and deliver the training course. In addition, engineers from the EHS Construction Safety Department will jointly attend continual development training.

A registration card, valid for two years, will be issued to the advisers who successfully pass the training and examination procedure. The card can be renewed after attending a one-day refresher course.

The first courses will run during the last week of May and all safety advisors working on Dubai World development projects have to be registered by December 31, 2007.

New fire regulations that come in to force in September 2006 are still not fully understood by many businesses in the UK.  Due the vast number of health and safety issues to take in to consideration during a fire risk assessment there is a high chance that mistakes will happen, in particular with the vast number of inexperienced people undertaking this function?

If you need to conduct a fire risk, assessment on your premises check that the assessor has not only fire experience but also health and safety trained. Failure to make this basic check could put you and your business at risk. So be warned just because some one may supply you fire extinguishers and basic fire training, it does not necessarily make them competent to undertake fire risk assessments.
